Tigers Senior Club Player Recruitment

16 Mar 2021 by Jack Kallarn

Good Morning Tigers Juniors Community,

The Tigers Seniors are calling for more players to register and play in the 2021 AFLSC season.

This is the second year in a row that the NDAFC will be submitting 3 teams in the men’s grades and the first year that they will be submitting 2 teams in the women’s grades. This is a great reflection of the recent expansion and growth of the club but it needs player support for it to be possible this year and sustainable in the future.

We are starting to see more juniors from U17 progress into senior footy with the club however we are still a few years away from that avenue being the main source of player recruitment for the senior club. It is important that we maintain these grades at the senior club to keep the pathway for our junior players alive.

This is a call out for any male or female parents/guardians or eligible friends and family members at the junior club who have either played before and think they might like to pull on the boots again or are brand new to the game and think they might like to give it a try and have some fun.

People of all ages, shapes, sizes, abilities and fitness levels are welcome, there is no minimum requirement other than to have a desire to improve one’s fitness and skills, to be part of a motivated team environment and have some fun.

With the addition of the third grade in the men’s competition and second grade in women’s competition there is a great deal of flexibility in what type of player you want to be. There is the opportunity for those who can commit and want to play in as high a grade and competitively as they can, to those that may not be able to play every game and just want to have a run around and some fun.

The Junior and Senior clubs have some exciting ideas this season to build more collaboration between the clubs and what better way to help do that than by throwing on the same jersey as your child and have them watch you have a go and be their AFL hero each week. As a current senior player at the Tigers, take it from me, there is no prouder feeling than playing footy at the same club, in the same jersey as your child; the feeling only to be surpassed I would assume, by one day maybe getting to play a game together in the same team. Some of you may already be able to do that 😉 It’s a connection that you’ll remember and want to embrace forever.

If you are keen to give it a go or even just want to suss it all out before committing, please come down to training, introduce yourself to the very friendly and welcoming coaching staff or me if I’m there and have a run around with the squad.

Training for both the Senior Men and Women is on Tues and Thurs evenings from 6:00pm – 7:30pm at Hollymount Park. Games are played on Saturdays with the first round starting on Sat 17 Apr, so there are still a few weeks to get a feel for it and decide whether it’s for you or not before the season starts. There is no obligation to register or pay straight away but I’m certain after a couple of sessions you’ll be hooked and wanting to 😉

Look forward to seeing you at training.
